What the app stores, and where
The app stores this on your phone:
- your progress: when each word is due for review, your results in lessons and practice tasks, and which parts you have opened
- the texts you write in the writing practice
- your settings, such as the voice, the speed and the flashcard settings
- your profile: the name you choose, and the avatar – one of the app's own pictures or your initials on a colour, never a picture from your phone
- the last words you looked up
All of this is stored only on your phone. We have no access to it, and the app sends it nowhere.
If you have turned on backup on your phone, the phone may include the app's data in its own backup (on Android, in your Google account), so that your progress moves with you to a new phone. You control this in your phone's settings, and we have no access to that backup.
Backup file
Under Me > Backup and restore you can create a file with your progress, settings and name. The file is created only when you ask for it, and you choose where it is saved or shared. The texts you have written are included only if you turn on "Include my written texts". When you import a file, it is read only on your phone.
Reading aloud
The app reads Norwegian aloud with the speech engine on your phone. The app sends no text anywhere to do so.
Some Android voices need the internet; under Me > Voice and speed they are marked "Needs internet". If your phone uses such a voice, the phone's speech engine sends the text to be read to the engine's provider (for example Google), under its terms. The text read aloud is always the app's own content – words, sentences and tasks – never anything you have written, and never your name.
Feedback by email
"Send feedback" under Me > Help and feedback opens your email app with a ready-made email: three questions, and below them the app version, the platform and its version, and the app's language. Nothing else – no progress and no ids. You see the whole email and can change it before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send it yourself.
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write. We use it only to answer you and to improve the app (legitimate interest, GDPR Article 6(1)(f)), and we delete the email when we no longer need it to follow up.
Beta feedback form
If the app later gets a beta feedback form, it opens in your browser at an external service. The form is optional, and the service handles what you write under its own privacy policy.
Links
The app links to its sources, such as HK-dir and Wikimedia Commons. A link opens in your browser only when you tap it, and the site you reach has its own privacy policy.
Permissions
On Android the app has only the INTERNET permission, which is granted at installation. It asks for no other permissions: no camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos or files.
Your rights
We hold no information about you from the app, so there is nothing for us to give you access to, correct or delete. What the app stores is on your phone, and deleting the app deletes all of it. A copy in your phone's own backup is deleted under your phone's rules.
If you have emailed us, you can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of that email at hei@norskup.no. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.
